Family Day on the Way of Mary in Transylvania

Country: Romania

Historical region: Transylvania

Family Day on the Way of Mary in Transylvania

This action was organized in a location where the tourism potential is high, but not yet properly exploited. The action thus helped to raise awareness of the local cultural and natural heritage. Here community events tend to be linked mostly to some kind of religious celebrations or are annually organized events. Thus, the rurAllure Family Day responded to the need of local and neighborhood residents to participate at an event organized with a new concept.

Eight featured trips in Hungary

Country: Hungary / Slovakia

Municipality: Gyöngyös / Mátraverebély / Péliföldszentkereszt / Gyimesbükk

Reference Route: Way of Mary / Via Mariae)

Systematic approach to producing and testing featured trips with accompanying narratives along the Ways of Mary / Mária Út

In 2022, the pilot created 8 featured trips in Hungary, and in most cases, featured trips go hand-in-hand with related narratives. In general they have focused on territories traversed by the Ways of Mary but also provided detours to discover hidden heritage not previously promoted. Also the narratives that they have developed to accompany these featured trips highlights aspects that have not been previously promoted.

Rural heritage and pilgrimage in the digital age

Research and innovation calls should foster the application of digital tools as complementary assets to physical resources. This will be possible by creating hybrid solutions in which both the physical and the digital connections between heritage and people are promoted. However, a digital transformation in the field of rural heritage and pilgrimage should also involve training programmes for cultural and non-cultural agents in the use of the latest technology, in the application of digital tools for the creation of audio routes and in the use of digital channels for the communication of contents in an easy and enjoyable manner. If we are able to add digital content to the physical realm we will not only increase awareness of the heritage values in the rural areas around the pilgrimage routes, but we will also help to involve new types of audiencias in their conservation and development.
